Reviews Policy

WordPatch.co.uk takes the integrity of its reviews seriously. Every review published on the site reflects the honest, independent judgement of the assigned reviewer and the editorial team, overseen by Editor-in-Chief Harriet Langford and the Standards & Fact-Checking Lead Thomas Ellery. Our goal is to provide readers with clear, trustworthy assessments of books, writing tools, software, digital platforms and services relevant to our coverage areas.

What reviews are based on

Reviews may be based on a variety of access methods. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Review copies of books provided by publishers, authors or publicists.
  • Books purchased by the reviewer or the publication.
  • Software testing, tool trials or product testing conducted by the reviewer.
  • Service testing, including trials of digital publishing platforms or educational resources.
  • Press access or preview access granted by a company or organisation.
  • Public releases of tools, products or content already available to consumers.
  • Products or materials provided specifically for editorial consideration.

Independence and editorial control

Access to a product, service or review copy never guarantees positive coverage. The provider has no control over the final editorial assessment, the score or the tone of the review. Our editorial team, including Editorial Policy leads, makes all publication decisions independently. Commercial or sponsor relationships do not influence the content or conclusions of any review. For more detail on how we separate commercial interests from editorial work, please see our Advertising and Affiliate Disclosure and Sponsored Content Policy.

Standard disclosure format

Every review includes a clear disclosure statement at the beginning or end of the article, in the following standard format:

“Disclosure: This review is based on [review copy/book purchased/software test/tool trial/product test/public release]. Access or materials were provided by [publisher/author/company/agency] where applicable. The provider had no control over the final editorial assessment.”

This ensures full transparency so that readers can assess any potential conflicts of interest. Further details on our approach to transparency can be found in our Ownership and Funding page.

How reviews differ from sponsored features

Reviews represent the independent opinion of our editorial team and are never paid for or commissioned by the subject of the review. In contrast, sponsored features, advertorials or commercially branded content are clearly labelled as such. Sponsored content is commissioned by a paying partner, is subject to approval by that partner, and is not written by our editorial reviewing staff. Reviews are never for sale. If you are uncertain whether a piece of content is a review or a sponsored feature, look for the explicit labelling or refer to our Sponsored Content Policy.

Review enquiries

Publishers, authors, developers and companies wishing to submit materials for editorial review consideration should contact us at reviews@wordpatch.co.uk. Please note that we cannot guarantee a review, a timeline for publication, or a specific outcome. All materials are considered on editorial merit alone.

Editorial standards and our team

All reviews adhere to the same strict editorial standards set out in our Editorial Policy. Fact-checking, source verification and integrity checks are conducted by our Standards & Fact-Checking Lead before publication.
